The series of teaching materials, Chinese Textbook of Huitong was developed by the College of Chinese Language and Culture Nankai University and People’s Education Press after three years of dedicated work. It is suitable for undergraduates, postgraduates and all kinds of long-term and short-term advanced students studying Chinese. The whole set consists of 12 kinds of textbooks, including two series, that is ChineseTextbook of Huitong • Reading and Writing (Volume 1-6) and Chinese Textbook ofHuitong • Listening and Speaking (Volume 1-6).

WangLixin, Dean of the College of Chinese Language and Culture Nankai University, and Zheng Wangquan, Vice President of People’s Education Press, are the chief planners of Chinese Textbook of Huitong, and Professor Lu Fubo, the College of Chinese Language and Culture, acts as the editor-in-chief. The outstanding advantages of the textbook are as follows: (1) Strong R&D team. The College of Chinese Language and Culture Nankai University is one of the eightnational education bases for teaching Chinese as a foreign language approved by the Ministry of Education, and People’s Education Pressis the national education and publishing institute in China. The two sides combine their strengths and complement each other;(2) Novel structure of thetextbook. Reading &Writing, Listening & Speaking closely cooperate with each other, with the same topic and corresponding rhythm. The whole set of textbooks is beautifully boundand illustrated; (3)Rich teaching resources. The textbook is designed with a large numberof exercises and tasks in various forms, which are interesting and close to life. In addition, audio-visual resources are provided to liberate front-line teachers from the heavy pressure of lesson preparation; (4) With full respect for user experience, the textbook was compiled with the opinions of foreign students for reference, andon trial for more than 3 rounds, and even 6 rounds for the primarypart.

Its main features are as follows: (1) The trinity Chinese teaching mode integrating “function, situation and task” is adopted, with the help of the design with a large number of communicative situations,pictures and tasks, the distance between the classroom language simulation application and the real language application outside the classroom is shortened; (2) The textbook design of “Reading& Writing servesas the guide, Listening& Speaking servesas the expansion” is adopted;(3) The intensive trainingmode of “learning and practicing with intensive speaking and more practice” is adopted; (4)The multi-level teaching system of words, phrases, sentences and chapters is adopted. In addition to the traditional vocabulary teaching and sentence teaching, emphasis is put on the teaching of morphemes with strong word-formation ability, chunk teaching and textteaching; (5) The textbook is arranged in a way that “closely fits the classroom and corresponds to the teaching rhythm”, leading and following the whole process of classroom “teaching” and“learning”, and meeting various needs of classroom teaching;(6) The textbook is equipped with a large number of complete teaching contents and materials that meet the needs, which provides great convenience forstudents’ learning and teachers’ teaching.

The publication of the series of teaching materials, Chinese Textbook of Huitong is the result of the continuous efforts and exploration of international Chinese education in teaching concepts and teaching models, as well as a highly innovative practice in the field of international Chinese education, which will well meet the needs for international communication of the Chinese language and the “going global”strategy of Chinese culture. At the sharing session, Ruan Nawei, a Belgian student who has used a variety of textbooks for teaching Chinese as a foreign language, believes that Chinese Textbook of Huitong isa Chinese textbook that can be “self-taught” due to its proper difficulty setting and easy-to-understand content. After the publication of the textbook, students generally believe that Chinese Textbook of Huitongintegrates the Chinese language and the Chinese culture, provides a large number of life situations and involves a wide range of social fields, which is not only the material for learning the Chinese language, but also the cultural material for learning and understanding the society, life, ideas and customs of contemporary China.
