ConfuciusInstitute Scholarship

Eligibility

All applicantsshall be

A. Non-Chinesecitizens

B. In goodphysical and mental condition, and excellent both in conduct andlearning.

C. Aspiring totake on future careers related to the international promotion orteaching of

Chinese language.

D. Between theages of 16-35 on September 1st, 2019. Applicants currently working asChinese language teachers shall not exceed the age limit of 45, whileundergraduate students shall not exceed the age limit of 25.


SCHOLARSHIPCATEGORIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

A. Scholarshipfor Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of OtherLanguages (MTCSOL)

Commences inSeptember 2019 and provides scholarship for a maximum of two academicyears. Applicants shall be Bachelor degree holders, and have aminimum score of 210 in the HSK test (Level 5) as well as 60 in theHSKK test (Intermediate Level). Applicants who are able to provide anotarized document or related proofs of an employment agreement uponcompleting studies in China are preferred.

B. Scholarshipfor Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of OtherLanguages (BTCSOL)

Commences inSeptember 2019 and provides scholarship for a maximum of fouracademic years. Applicants must have graduated with a high schooldiploma, , and have a minimum score of 210 in the HSK test (Level 4)as well as 60 in the HSKK test (Intermediate Level).

C. Scholarshipfor One-Academic-Year Study

Commences inSeptember 2019, and provides scholarship for a maximum of 11 months.International students currently studying in China are not eligible.

a) TCSOL

Applicants shallhave a minimum score of 270 in the HSK test (Level 3), as well as anHSKK test score.

b) ChineseLanguage and Literature, Chinese History, and Chinese Philosophy

Applicants shallhave a minimum score of 180 in the HSK test (Level 4) and 60 in theHSKK test (intermediate level).

c) ChineseLanguage Study

Applicants shallhave a minimum score of 210 in the HSK test (Level 3).

D. Scholarshipfor One-Semester Study

Commences eitherin September 2019 or March 2020 and provides scholarship for amaximum of 5 months. Applicants withholding visas X1 or X2 are noteligible.

Study directioncan be TCSOL, Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History orChinese Philosophy.

Applicants shallhave a minimum score of 180 in the HSK test (Level 3), as well as anHSKK test score.

E. Scholarshipfor Four-Week Study

Commences eitherin July or December of 2019, and provides a four-week scholarship.Applicants withholding visas X1 or X2 are not eligible.

a) ChineseLanguage plus home-stay experience with a Chinese Family

HSK test scoresare required. Groups of 10-15 applicants need to be organized andregistered by a Confucius Institute. Prior to the trip, a detailedstudy plan shall be elaborated after consultation with hostinstitutions and submitted to Hanban for approval.

b) SpecialFour-week Program for Confucius Institutes

HSK test scoresare required. Groups of 10-15 applicants need to be organized andregistered by a Confucius Institute.



ApplicationProcedures

A.Onlineregistration will be available from March 1, 2019 on the ConfuciusInstitute Scholarship website at http://cis.chinese.cn. Pleaselog on and upload the application materials online.

B.Please registeron the Nankai University admission website (http://nankai.17gz.org),and complete the online application for international students ofNKU.

C.Track theapplication progress, application reviews and admission results.

D.Upon beingadmitted by the CIS, scholarship holders need to contact ouruniversity to confirm admittance and go through the applicationprocedures for studying in China, print out the CIS certificate(cis.chinese.cn), and register at the designated date and time as perthe letter of admission.

E.The applicationdeadlines are

a) April 20th(for those commencing in July)

b) May 20th (forthose commencing in September)

c) September 20th(for those commencing in December)

d) November 20th(for those commencing in March 2020)

Chinese Bridgewinners who have been awarded the 2019 “Confucius InstituteScholarship Certificate” shall log onto the CIS website and submittheir documents to us. If there is any question, please contactchinesebridge@hanban.org.



ApplicationMaterials

A.A scanned copyof the passport photo page

B.A scanned copyof the score reports of the HSK and HSKK tests (within the two-yearvalidity).

C.Arecommendation letter by the head of the recommending institution.

D.A certificationof the highest education diploma (or proof of expected graduation)and an official transcript.

E.Applicants ofthe scholarship for the MTCSOL program are required to provide 2reference letters from professors or associate professors. Those whocan provide a notarized employment agreement with a teachinginstitution are preferred.

F.Applicantscurrently working as Chinese language teachers shall provide theirproof of employment as well as a reference letter by the employinginstitution

G.Applicantsunder the age of 18 shall provide a certified document of custodysigned by the applicant’s parent and their entrusted legalguardians in China.

H.ForeignerPhysical Examination Formwrittenin English.The physical examinations must cover all of the items listed in theForeigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete forms or formswithout the signature of the attending physician, or the officialstamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicant areconsidered as invalid. Please carefully plan your physicalexamination schedule as the result is valid for only 6 months.



Valueof Award

A.The ConfuciusInstitute Scholarship provides full coverage on tuition fees,accommodation fees, living allowance (four-week study students areexcluded) and comprehensive medical insurance expenses.

B.Livingallowance is granted on a monthly basis. The monthly allowance forundergraduates, one-academic-year study students and one-semesterstudents is 2,500 CNY per person. For MTCSOL student, the monthlyallowance is 3,000 CNY per person. Free dormitory in a shareddouble-room will be offered by the university.

C.Comprehensivemedical insurance is purchased by Nankai University in accordancewith the relevant regulations for studying in China stipulated by theMinistry of Education of China.

D.Students arerequired to complete enrollment procedures for every semester withinthe stipulated period. Students who enroll before the 15th (or on the15th) of the month are entitled to the full allowance of that monthwhile those enrolled after the 15th of that month are only entitledto half of the amount.

E.During theperiod of study, for any student who is absent from China due topersonal reasons for more than 15 days (excluding winter and summerholidays), the allowance during absence will be suspended. Forstudents who suspend their studies or drop out of school for personalreasons, or who are given disciplinary punishment by the hostinstitutions, allowance will be terminated on the date of suchsuspension, drop-out or when the decision of such punishment isannounced. The living allowance for the month of graduation will begranted for half a month after the date of graduation or theexpiration day of studies confirmed by the host institutions.

F.Degree studentsshall accept an annual assessment under the Annual AppraisalProcedures of Confucius Institute Scholarship. Those who failed toregister on time, failed to pass the health assessment, dropped outmidway and/or were suspended will be deprived of the scholarship.
