President Xi Jinping visited Nankai University in Tianjin on the morning of January 17th. He went to an exhibition about the 100-year history of the university; exchanged ideas with academicians, scholars and teachers; and visited the chemistry college and a key state-level laboratory.
Xi said patriotism is the heart and soul of the Chinese nation, which is also a tradition and spirit of Nankai University. Nankai University was founded to train talents in order to make the Chinese nation strong. Now after standing up, we have reached the stage of getting richer and stronger. We should combine the specific goals in learning with the grand goal of national rejuvenation. Xi encouraged the students to strive toward it and devote to the nation. He hopes we could take a down-to-earth manner in study, with concrete steps, but always harbor a grand goal in mind. Aim high, but always keep our feet on the ground. “I hope your generation can contribute to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and make Nankai University proud”, he said.
