The Opening Ceremony of New Semester for Overseas Students Successfully Held

(Correspondent Yue Kun, Translator Li Yueqing) The opening ceremony for overseas students of College of Chinese Language and Culture was held in the Oriental Art Building in Nankai University on September 21,2018. Mr.Wu Zhicheng, director of the International Academic Exchange Department of Nankai University, Mrs.Xing Lifang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Chinese Language and Culture, Mr.Wang Lixin, president of the College and nearly 300 overseas students from all over the world were present at the ceremony. Class tutors, representatives of professors and officials of the International Academic Exchange Office attended as well.

    Unlike previous years, an awarding ceremony was added to honor Han Maoyu, a Nigerian graduate student and his tutor Professor Wu Xingyun. Han Maoyu won the champion in the Second National Chinese Teaching Competition sponsored by the NOCFL and the Confucius Institute Headquarters in June this year. He gave full play to the accumulated teaching skills and knowledge of Chinese culture, which helped him perform perfectly and win in fierce competition. This ceremony was supposed to both award Han Maoyu and encourage all the students. Within the context of Chinese language and culture craze surging around the globe,  Chinese international education and the corresponding master's programs have figured prominently in the world.

As the awarding ceremony finished, Mr.Wang Lixin delivered a speech, extending warm welcome to the overseas students. He mentioned that communication and exchanges are indispensable for solving international problems, during which language could act as a significant tool. Overseas students are expected to make full use of opportunities in Nankai University to improve their Chinese language ability and learn more about China. In the end of his speech, Mr.Wang wished all present a happy mid-autumn festival.

    Hu Rongrong, the representative of class tutors expressed her sincere greetings to overseas students. She encouraged them to immerse themselves in learning Chinese and make great progress in spite of possible difficulties.

    As the representative of senior students, Han Maoyu told the present his experience of participating in the Chinese Teaching Competition. He expressed his gratitude to all the teachers and students offering help to him. With the support of teachers in our college, he believed that more students would make great performance in national competitions.

    Wangkai from Ethiopia spoke for freshmen of Chinese language training program. He has been interested in Chinese culture for a long time and longed for studying in China. College of Chinese Language and Culture of  Nankai University enjoyed a good reputation in Chinese teaching and he hoped to improve his language ability here and become a qualified Chinese teacher in the future.

    Fang Dawei from Italy spoke on behalf of undergraduate freshmen. He shared his reason to study in Nankai University and his stories about learning Chinese. He also humbly said that there would be still a long way for him to go in Chinese learning and he would make more progress together with all the students here.

After the opening ceremony, a meeting between the class tutors and overseas students was held to give in-depth explanations on syllabus, curriculum planning, cultural courses and other issues about the forthcoming semester to help students further understand and adapt to their future life here.
