(Correspondent: Yue Kun) On November 18th, more than 50 new international-language students paid a visit to Baocheng Rare Stone Garden, located in Jinnan District, Tianjin, to experience Chinese culture.
Baocheng Rare Stone Garden is a National AAAA Tourism Attraction, as well as a private museum given special approval by the National Ministry of Culture. In 2009, this garden has successfully applied for six Shanghai Great World Guinness Records, and is listed into Great World Guinness Records Collection with its “novelty, peculiar style and large area”. All of these characteristics have a strong attraction for overseas students all over the world.
Following the guide interpreter, students visited Baocheng Museum (No.1 Museum), Baocheng Folk-custom Museum (No.2 Museum), Baocheng Bowu Museum (No.3 Museum), the architectural complex about traditional culture and religions, as well as fossil-wood forest and other scenic spots. Although the weather was not good, it didn’t influence students’ interest. Students all marveled at the first tree fossil-jade dating back to 150 million years ago, the most comprehensive Lingbi stones exhibition room, the biggest fossil-wood forest in the world and the most comprehensive exhibition of stones with celebrities’ signatures. During the visit, many students asked questions about the things they were interested in while listening to the guide. Through this trip, they not only learned new knowledge, but also improved their Chinese language skills in practice.
With the architectural style integrating “ancient stones and trees, archaic art and antique architectures”, this comprehensive garden with “rare stones and plants, arch bridges, blue water and fish” has greatly broadened students’ horizon. After the visit, overseas students all expressed that it’s a worthwhile trip, which not only glutted their eyes, but also let them have a more profound understanding of Chinese culture.
For years, the College of Chinese Language and Culture has been devoted to the education practice of overseas students. It has cooperated with plenty of educational institutions, cultural organizations, enterprises and public institutions to provide many opportunities and platforms for overseas students, so that they can have a better understanding of China and Chinese culture.
