CCLC—On the morning of September 18th, Dean Wang Lixin of CCLC and the director of the admissions office were invited to attend the 2016 Autumn Semester’s Opening Ceremony of the English Language Institute, University of Utah & Welcome Ceremony of the First Chinese Language Undergraduates Oriented in International Business and Trade. ********** (director of the Confucius Institute in the University of Utah), Dean Korrin, (director of English Language Institute) Mr. Krairut, (executive officer of ELI-CCLC Program), teacher representatives from English Language Institute and 16 undergraduates from CCLC oriented in International Business and Trade also attended the ceremony.
The ceremony was held by Mr. Korrin. Dean Wang was invited to give a speech.
In the past year, Dean Korrin paid his visit to CCLC twice to discuss the cooperation program with leaders of CCLC, organized the orientation meeting for the prospective students, and gradually solved the issues of learning, visa, accommodation and food for overseas students from NKU, all of which ensured the success of the program. Mrs. Korrin warmly welcomed the students and teachers from CCLC, NKU. She said that it is their great honor to meet the leaders of CCLC in this Opening & Welcome Ceremony. Nankai University is a prestigious university which previously has cooperation experience with American universities. The University of Utah is willing to conduct exchanges and cooperation with Nankai University. She hoped that the students from NKU could gradually adapt to the new environment and make new friends from all countries. She and all the colleagues from the University of Utah will provide all convenience to overseas students so that they can learn authentic English and have a wonderful and meaningful life studying abroad.
Dean Wang Lixin said that the “3+1” International Business and Trade Program with the University of Utah has cost a large amount of preparation work. The Program was launched in September 2015 and now the first 16 students from this program are coming to the University of Utah to start their one-year overseas study here. He expressed his gratitude to the University of Utah for their effective work. He noted that the success of the “3+1” Program played an important role in deepening the communication in education between the two colleges, developing new cooperation models as well as exploring new methods of overseas student education. “America is a country with advanced education system and multicultural context; the Salt Lake City is a beautiful city; the University of Utah is a famous university. Through this program, students from CCLC become the pioneers to know America and Salt Lake City as well as the University of Utah.” Wang Lixin said to the 16 overseas students, “I hope you can treasure this opportunity of learning in America. Meanwhile, please remember you’re a student of NKU. During your study here, you must obey the rules of the school and the laws of America and Utah. Be positive and progressive, and promote the spirit of Nankai as well as show this spirit to other people.”
After the ceremony, the 16 overseas students attended the placement examination, the orientation and the learning guidance course that are prepared by ELI. Wang Lixin and the director of the admissions office were invited to watch the teaching activities held by ELI. Unlike other overseas students, the 16 students will continue learning Chinese in the University of Utah. The personalized courses and the continuous bilingual teaching will help them keep their foreign language ability in a high level.
The International Business and Trade orientation for the undergraduates in CCLC is a special major set to adapt to the economic globalization as well as the increasing trend of overseas students coming to China. The college values highly of undergraduate discipline construction and the teaching quality. It is reported that the “3+1” Program will continue every following year.
